Times of Change for Wednsday

Jack Smith

What problems did he face in Vietnam?

- He was sent into action even though he wasnt experienced
- Bombs were dropped on their boats
- They faced death every day (body bags)
- Dirty, muddy, smelly soilders
- Bombarded with bullets.
- Had to bandage hurt friends
- Faked dead for saftey
- Was wounded by a grenade
- Hurt his right leg

His attituded changed towards war because he was angry that he had gone through that and all his friends had died. He was cynical. Changed his perspective on life. Learned how to accept pain.

I feel like im fixing to Die Rag

What is the song asking the “big strong men to do”? That the US needs help in vietnam. Leave college and join the army

… the “generals” to do? Go out and get those reds. (communism) They need to fight to the end

… “Wall Street” to do? Raise money. Supply army with tools.

… “mothers” to do? Help your sons go to Vietnam

Write down four specific lines from the song that display sarcasm, cynicism, or anti-war sentiment.

What are we fighting for? Dont ask me i dont give a damn

There aint no time to wonder why. Whoopie were all gonna die

The only good commie is the one whos dead

Were gonna have a whole lot of fun
